Greater Darwin Region Land Use Plan Towards 2030 Consultation Paper - MKT Aerodrome

I went through the consultative paper prepared by the NT Department of Planning and Infrastructure looking for any reference to MKT Aerodrome. You can read and download the consultation paper from http://www.nt.gov.au/lands/growth/gdr_2030/consultation_paper/documentation.shtml.

I looked for Airport, Aerodrome, Airfield and MKT. I only found the word Airport eight times and all referred to the Darwin International Airport precinct and half of those words referred not to the transport infrastructure aspect, but to the retail area where Bunnings is.

Although some may feel that MKT has been ignored in the document, it represents a great step forward for a couple of reasons.

A cricket match is looming for the TEFC vs the parachute club

This match between the parachutists and the Top End Flying Club has traditionally been a one sided affair. The generally older and less mobile recreational pilots are no match for the people living on the edge and leaping out of good planes with a large hankie above their head to get them back to Earth.

This year on the 26th of February, all that is about to change. Without spilling the beans, our club has been slowly recruiting student pilots who are fresh of face and fleet of foot. A few secret weapons including the cricket playing, just graduated from flying school father and son combination - Kyle and Graham Lawrence along with a few other young bloods look sure to provide the TEFC with an opportunity to avenge the savage lost last year.

If you are from the TEFC - head down at 10am for what is sure to be a great day!
