We had a great AGM on Friday night with Armin cooking up a sensational barbeque for all who attended. One of things decided at the meeting following the election of office bearers was to move end of month meetings back to Sunday morning.
Although there will be formal minutes of the meeting posted to the website, here is my quick rundown of some of the key events of the evening.
Outgoing President Dave Eakins elected not to stand again after putting in two solid years and like many of us, family and work committments are paramount when compared to volunteer work in clubs and organisations.
Mick Heiner, a previous President was unanimously voted in and provided us with a quick and extremely positive update on the relationship between the planning authorities and flying activities at MKT.
While not in the same league as Temora, MKT and the local planning authorities are working closely to confirm the permanency of MKT as an alternative aerodrome for small aircraft in the Darwin vicinity. This includes the opportunity to construct hangars and ancillary buildings with appropriate permits and planning approval, thus removing some of the uncertainty about hangar space which has plagued us for years. Between Mick Heiner, Steve Hatton and the Meyering Family working in conjunction with lands and planning including rural planning, much has been achieved.
We will be gettng a new drinks machine which will be stocked by the club and this will eases some of the accounting challenges in relation to operating an honour based drinks system.
We have submitted a grant application for supporting airstrip works to wonderful bitumen airstrip and hope to hear about that soon.
In conjunction with the RAAF and CASA we are re-establishing the authorised flights around Darwin via CASA instrument as we have done in the past. This will enable us to conduct static displays at the aviation museum adjacent to Darwin Airport.
Dave Sykes passed on his thanks for the support he received in Darwin and as we may or may not know he was greeted by the CEO of RA-Aus in Sydney on the final leg of his trip.
I briefly spoke about the reason for my resignation from the board of RA-Aus and we have at least two long standing members of RA-Aus and GA combined who are seriously considering the challenge when the by-election is called and are in a position to contribute a wealth of aviation and management/policy knowledge. Please ensure you support them by voting if nominations are called.
There is serious talk of another open day this year and after visiting Natfly, I have to say our open days are up ther in terms of aircraft, activities and participation.
From the Executive Position perspective the key positions filled were: Mick Heiner President, Steve Allen Secretary, Greg Moo Treasurer and Public Officer, Hek Shucker Vice President, Mike Nelson Licensee, and Dave Eakins Immediate Past President who the gathering thanked warmly for his contribution over the last two years.
I won't list our committee members because I know I am going forget someone :-(
We are of course on a membership drive, so bring those aviation lurkers out ther and get them flying...
