CASA's presentation on Sport Aviation

A couple of weeks ago I attended the board meeting for RA-Aus in Canberra. This meeting saw our new CEO Robbie Costmeyer involved in the board meeting. Most of what can be published will come through the magazine, but there are a couple of items that are worth sharing here.

Jim Coyne is the head of a new entity within CASA dedicated to looking after all the aviation self administering organisations in the sport and recreational sector.

He presented to us on the Sunday morning and I attach his PowerPoint presentation with his permission. Although it is much better with his words to fill in the gaps, I am happy to run through any of the detail of that presentation and any of the board meeting agenda items that resulted in outcomes.

There was a lot of discussion about Natfly, about Level II workshops and training, about governance, compliance, risk management and insurance. With over ten thousand members, discussions about a flight to a mate's paddock and how to fix recurring broken springs on drifter mufflers are kept for outside the board meeting. The relationship with CASA which was heavily on the agenda in 1985 is still very much on the agenda and I pleased to say that our organisation is held up as the organisation that is the best of the 13 or so organisations in this sector. We are certainly the largest and the 200 new members per week for the last year is saying something about what we have to offer and the extra administrative load it is putting on our office in Canberra.

We always have a filled 3 days of meetings, discussions and negotiations...
