Moon Festival Kununurra Flyaway in May
For those at the general meeting last Sunday, Steve Allen ran through an ambitous but very doable and enticing flyaway planned for the end of May.
A dry season evening on the banks of the Ord River
– a full moon, good friends, good music, local hooch
– what more could you want?
FLY AWAY to Kununurra
for the
Kimberley Moon Experience
– an outdoor concert headlined by Johnny Farnham.
– the highlight of the two-week-long Ord Valley Muster.
Saturday evening 29 May 2010
Check out the vacant seat availablibility from John Bradley at the end of this article...
Last year, Steve Allen and friend Liza attended. This was what they did:
- Departed MKT at 0800 Saturday morning in the Jabiru J120.
- Arrived Kununurra 0900 after a 2½ hour flight (clocks go back 1½ hours!)
- Hung out with friends, attended the open air market, etc.
- Went to the concert (free bus service).
- Lounged around on a rug, listened to the performances on stage,
drank coffee laced with the smoothest local rum from the “Hoocherie”
enjoyed food from the stalls at the concert venue.
- Returned to a friend’s house for the night.
- Sunday morning departed for the return flight to MKT
(went via Timber Creek and Tindal, just for fun,
but it was a much longer flight than direct track).
This year Steve and Liza plan something similar, but departing Friday morning, 28 May and returning Sunday or Monday. This is to give more time to explore and enjoy the sights, both on the ground and from the air (Lake Argyle, Wyndham, Bungle-Bungles, and of course the Hoocherie).
You are invited to join us.
If you are interested. please call Steve on 0488 11 9692
to discuss your involvement, exchange ideas, and consider the logistics.
(Need to move fairly quickly to book accommodation).

Now here is a note from John Bradley and a chance to share a ride in a Texan to and from the festival...\
I am attending at the festival and have booked my accommodation already (twin share for 2). Carmen is away so I will be looking for someone who wants a lift as I will be flying the Texan. The accommodation is booked at Country Club Resort (4 star), in 28th May out 31ST. Accommodation cost $450pp (3 nights in a ‘Club’ room) including breakfast, transfers from the air strip and to and from the show, and a few other little bonuses. Anybody interested in taking my passenger seat and sharing the accommodation please contact me ASAP.
