Flying Scenary
When you are flying around 1000ft above the ground in a drifter aircraft, you get to see some amazing things. Most of the people who are subscribed to this blog fly aircraft and I take for granted that they see what I see when I fly. I also take photographs when I fly, a lot of them. I get a lot of pleasure from the combination of flight and photography.
What I haven't done is write and show off some of this stuff... I don't have a category for fun or photos in this blog.
Pretty sad isn't it? Well it is going to change. We are enjoying our wet season here in Darwin which occurs at this time of the year and here are some photographs of water related things that we can see from our little aircraft.
You can click on the thumbnails for a larger version. This first photo is of a rain storm in the distance. During the wet season these storms are dotted everywhere and providing you are sensible you can fly in the vicinity of the storms.
Of course with rain comes rainbows and they look spectacular from the air. This one is out near Fogg Dam, about 50 km South East of Darwin.
Not all of the water is falling from the sky.
Unlike our counterparts down south, our dams constantly overflow during the wet season and here is a photo of water teaming over the wall at Manton Dam, which was Darwin's original water supply.
If you click on the Manton Dam photo below, you will see a father and son fishing at the base of the dam.
More rainstorms and upon reflection I was probably too close in this shot - although I was using a 200 mm lens.
Speaking of lens, I now use a Nikon D90 with an 18-105 VR lens. Earlier photos were taken with a Nikon D70s with a number of lenses.
The problem of course is swapping them while you are trying to flying the plane.
With rain can come flooding. This shot is of the Adelaide River flooding around the bridge. Having seen how big the crocodiles are there, you would not want to be sticking your toes in the water.
All of these photos are taken from one of my photographic websites that has 100 albums containing about 1000 photographs. This album is located at http://picasaweb.google.com/Aerial.MarkChristie
