Joe and the Volcano

Joe has just completed a school project relating to natural disasters. As part of the project, he built a volcano from modelling clay and created an eruption using a combination of vinegar, bicarb soda and food colouring. Although there is a video, here are some of the still shots.

Basketball - by Joe Christie (8 years old)

By Joe Christie
I am a basket ball player. I play for the TV jets. I am number nineteen. I am here to tell you some rules and tips about basket ball.
1. Never foul someone on the other team, that way they get one or two penalty goals.
2. If you are tall like me defend the goal against the other team.
3. If you are small you can grab the ball off the person who has the ball.
4. If you have a good throw try shooting from the three point line, if not practice.
5. If you are stuck where a whole lot of opposition team is, throw the baseball at someone who is not near where the opposition team is.
I hope these tips will help you in future games. Now here are the rules.
1. No travel.
2. Do not foul.
3. No double or triple dribble.
These are some simple rules that everybody sometimes forgets, now I will tell you where everything is on the court.
The three point line is where you shoot goals so you can get three points.
The circle is where you shoot penalty points when you get fouled.
The base line is where the ball rolls out of the court and the opposition team gets to throw it in.
The centerline is where you do a ball up and try to hit it to your team members.
The backboard is when you try and shoot a goal and if you hit the backboard you have a good chance of getting it in.
Most important the hoop is where you get the goals.
I hope this has helped you with your skills and knowledge.

Joe's reading

Joe has to read to his parents for 15 minutes. I thought this would be a good chance to show what an eportfolio example is. Joe is not being formally assessed on this work, but by placing a recording of his work here - it proves that he has done his homework and provides an example of his standard of reading at this point in time. So, if you are interested, here are the first three chapters of Roald Dahl's book Fantastic Mr Fox as recorded by Joe Christie - 8 years old.

Words to work on - Orchard, Pot Bellied and probably a couple of others of I missed.
