Joes roundup for the last month

Karate

Firstly Joe participated in a karate competition at the end of September which looked at three major areas – individual forms which are the sets of movements they learn, group or team demonstrations and finally sparring. One of my long time work colleagues won a trophy and will represent her region and to prove how small Darwin is, seated behind her were two other colleagues from my workplace at Berrimah farm. Alongside Natalie, the other recipient is the son of a current work colleague. Joe received a bronze and silver medal for his efforts and a great experience.

Anula Family back into the swing of things after the school break

Well the kids are back from holidays and the numbers are now increasing again. With a grading looming the kids are putting in extra effort to learn new techniques. Don't forget the main website for Anula Family Karate is located at http://anulafamilykarate.ning.com/

Come on down if you are new, it is a great way to keep fit, learn skills that make you a better person and meet new friends somewhere else other than facebook...

Joe is awarded 7th Gup

With the grading and presentation long past (well two weeks)... Training is now well re-established back at the Anula Dojang and it feels good to be training back there (or at least that is what Joe says). Apart from the recent plague of mosquitoes that has every Darwinite rushing indoors at dusk affecting those who dare to venture out, all is good. Make sure you have some aeroguard on before training as no amount of karate can protect you from the potential disease that they carry.

A grading and karate returns to Anula

After an extended period at Karama due to renovations at Anula, we are back at Anula.

Last weekend Anula Family Karate conducted a grading and it was great to see such a large number of people grading. It was a great effort and parents and partners proudly watched as forms, blocks, kicks and sparring were demonstrated.

Karate returns to Anula Primary School on Monday 6 September

After extensive work to Anula Primary School, Anula Family Karate will be returning to Anula Primary School this coming Monday 6 September 2010. We look forward to seeing you there.

Joe grades to 8th Gup

Joe graded to 8th Gup or Orange Belt in Karate (Soo Bahk Do) last week and these photographs are from the presentation.

On an unrelated note, it looks like the renovations at Anula are taking longer than expected which means that we will probably be operating at Karama until the end of this year.

A big congratulations to those who graded last week.

A sporting wildlife weekend

So Joe had a busy weekend... well so did our local wildlife... last album on the bottom right - meet willy the frilly - or as I think we have found out - williette

Karate training to continue at Karama until June

Due to the renovations continuing at Anula Primary School, training will be held at Karama Primary School until at least June.

Training will be on Monday and Wednesday, with light sparring on Saturday mornings to be confirmed by Mr Ulstrup.

Kidz classes are from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, and seniors from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

We took a walk past Anula the other day and there are considerable extensions in the form of new buildings being added to the end of the assembly area and a complete new mini-block on the oval side of the school.

There has been a lot of progress despite the rain and with the new extended verandah around the assembly area the classes shouldn't be blinded by the afternoon sun or rained on when classes resume at Anula.

Fletch - Karate with Brains

Casuarina student third in brain test (8 February)
Congratulations to Fletcher Luders of Casuarina Senior College (and Anula Family Karate) for an outstanding performance in the national final of the Brain Bee Competition recently. Fletcher spent about a week with staff at the ‘brain institute’ at the University of Queensland in preparation for the final, where he finished third. The Brain Bee is a neuroscience competition for high school students.
