One Thousand and one photo albums

Or pretty close to it. I have created a little program that randomly selects a random album from my twenty or so album repositories up on the Internet and presents the viewer with a slide show. To view a new album, just press F5 to refresh with a new album.

Shoal Bay Low Tide Pictures - 30cm Tide

Shoal bay in Darwin is a great fishing area for barramundi, mud crabs and prawns. It is a fairly shallow bay and when the tide drops down to 30cm or one foot in the old measurement and I fly over the bay at 500 ft and take 200 photographs, the local fishing guys want to know. Well here they are... These are the pictures that will help you get in and out of the bay and get those fish. Let me know what you think.

Another successful and enjoyable flight around Darwin

Well another flyaround today in less windy conditions that previous weeks but with a smoke haze that made photography challenging. I still managed to add over a hundred photographs to the Around Darwin series and 20 to the waterfront series which now has over 70 photographs. We had 9 aircraft on this flight which is now my sixth in one year excluding my personal foray in July last year.

So in 2003 we performed a fly around of Darwin and then nothing until 2006 October 1 when we started the flyarounds.

Six in 9 months and if the flight to Hidden Valley occurs next Sunday, 7 official, sanctioned flights into controlled airspace in 9 months.

I believe that apart from the enjoyment aspect and the raised visibility of recreational flying, the Tower, the Club and pilots are reinforcing good techniques and how we can interoperate with the Tower to safely enjoy without causing delay or disturbance to commercial or military aircraft arriving or departing from Darwin.

Additionally, my photographs and those of others serve as a visual capture of contemporary development in Darwin, with the Waterfront Project being a classic case of a work in progress.

So, photographs uploaded, so check out the additions. I personally like the "divine light through clouds" shots at the end of the album.

Thanks again to Ron for organising the flight and I sincerely believe that this is a key activity for our club, both from an exposure point of view and a training/development point of view.

I need to add that there are some photographs of the Seafood Festival setup on Fisherman's Wharf which looked great from the air.

Manton Dam Flooding

The other day as I was flying around checking out how high the water was (in comparison to our southern compatriats who check to see how low things are) I flew over Manton Dam which used to be Darwin's primary water source.

With the rains, the dam wall became a spillway.
