Downloading video from websites

Now as a rule, I don't support the idea of downloading video from places like YouTube as it contravenes their terms and conditions. The preference is always to embed the content into a course in our Learning Management System using the embed HTML code that is available for just about all embedded videos nowadays. This ensure that the content lives in the cloud and you are just linking which makes your LMS Moodle sequences more portable.

However... if you are teaching in a very remote location and the live playback of video across the Internet and the intranet is not there yet, and the last ting on your mind is building a portable piece of courseware because you just want the dang video to play... there is an option. It will cost you 39.90 US dollars.

More on tags and barcodes - and a secret stash of resources

I have been using Microsoft's tag reader and it is great, especially when you want to create your own tag that points to content. In Tom Khulman's latest blog he has a graphic of an admission ticket to an event in Phoenix . The ticket had a QR Code on it and the code also had a hyperlink which took you to information about the event.

http://www.articulate.com/rapid-elearning/heres-how-to-help-your-subject-matter-experts-build-better-e-learning-courses/ is where the article is and I recommend the article as it talks about working with Subject Matter Experts in an eLearning context.

Back on topic... Microsoft tag reader couldn't read the tag, so I downloaded another reader called mobiletag which is in the app store or you can visit their site at http://www.mobiletag.com.

screenr - awesome screen capture

The final bit of awesomeness for the morning is screenr - meant as a tool for capturing and narrating the screen (I wonder who would want to do that?) and posting to twitter OR downloading the mp4 and placing it in say Adobe Presenter for publishing to Adobe Connect.

Let's just hope the firewall lets it through

Of course there are other free products around (Jing and Camstudio) along with more powerful products like Camtasia and Adobe Captivate - but this is too good to be free.
