I have had a trouble free time using my credit card to buy things on the internet and the other day a stranger also had a trouble free time using my card to purchase 3 lots of software online.
On my internet banking account there is a hyperlink that allows me to dispute transactions and I have to say that it was the easiest process to report the dispute. I still needed to use their hotline phone number to report a transaction that had not yet been processed. The bank staff member was surprised and impressed that I had used the online system to report the other two misuses of the credit card.
What made the transactions stand out? One originated in Europe and the other in South Africa -both attracting those foreign currency exxchange rate fees and both were for software. So although I purchase a lot of software online, these stood out because I didn't recognise the companies and the foreign exchange rate amount stood out. The amounts used wer not great and could have slipped through without notice.
Of course I didn't pick it up, my wife did - and for those who know us both - that will come as know surprise.
So, it can happen to anyone, and the amounts don't have to be enormous, so do take the time to check your credit card statements.
A new credit card is on its way as I write this.
